A Memory of Summer Camp At Pokhara

I am Sirjan Subedi from Nuwakot Access Centre. I study in Prithvi Secondary School, Bidur. As an Access student, we got a golden opportunity this year to participate in the summer camp organized in Pokhara on May 3-6 2019. The trip was entitled Intensive Youth Leadership Programme. It provided us an opportunity to learn through experiences and to explore some important places in Pokhara. The camp was really awesome. In the camp, we enjoyed program in Pokhara Grande and visited different places like Phewa lake, Taal Barahi Temple, Devi's Fall, Gupteswor Cave, International Mountain Museum, etc. in Pokhara.

On May 3, Friday we went to Pokhara from Nuwakot. We reached our destination at about 3 pm. We were very excited throughout our journey. We knew we were going to stay in Hotel Pokhara Grande which is  a 5 star hotel in Pokhara. As we reached there, we were instructed to stay in our rooms and take rest as other groups were arriving. In the camp, we were divided into many groups named after different flowers. Among them, I belonged to the Daffodils. The instructor of our group was Umesh Budhathoki from Illam Access Center. He was such a humble, helping , friendly and funny instructor and specially, we had learned many things from him as he shared his life journey, experience, Struggle and Career. We enjoyed first day writing and practicing camp cheers for our group.

On the second day, we got up early in the morning and had breakfast. We went on a field trip to Fewa Lake and Taal Barahi temple. We went by bus. We enjoyed boating on Fewa Lake and taking lots of photos. After returning to our venue and having lunch, we continued our program sessions. There was also a book bus which was so wonderful. It carried a library of books and moved around in different places of the country in their request. In the camp there was also a talent show in which we presented their dances, songs, caricatures, etc.

On the third day, we got up and had breakfast. Likewise, we went on a field trip to Devi's Fall, Gupteswor Cave, and International Mountain Museum on foot. It was very awesome to be in the cave and to see the Fall. In the afternoon, we had inspiring sessions on Time Management by Bishwa Raj Gautam ,Personality Development by Upendra Poudel and Coursera online learning by Prathana Basukala. In the evening, there was also drama competition in which six dramas from Access centers were presented and we had performed drams which is about Drugs Abuse and we get the Second runner up award for this drama.. In the closing ceremony, the winners were awarded with prizes and Beautiful trophy and participants with certificates.

The fourth day was scheduled for our departure to hometown. However, due to the rumors of strike, our friends from Ilam and Nawalpur had already left. We had to wait till 9 am to make sure whether we could get through to our destination. Finally we departed at around 10 am.

The camp experience has been so memorable to us. I feel so lucky to get this opportunity to participate in the Access camp. I feel very happy to have the chance to be a part of such a grand program. I think these camp experiences are really important to shape my future. This is one of the best experience of my life.

We have enjoyed a lots in the hotel, we three Me and my two friends (Sachin Sapkota and Shree Krishna Shrestha)  played a lots in room. We have watched movies together and share memories with eachother. We have made a lots of friends and specially learned their cultures and traditions.
